As with any exchange you just keep the documents report cards all work done etc, never throw it away. And take it home with you to show your guidance counselor you were actually doing work.

I'm only going for a semester so it's not going to be that big of a problem anything she doesn't transfer for me I am going to take online with Florida virtual school.

In that case you must make sure you get graded in the portuguese school. otherwise they will only give you a pass and not a grade (which is mostly the case for semester exchange students, as they only get to the point they can do class work (if they ever do) at the end of their experience.

I forgot how to multiquote different posts, but for musicgirl, no, you do not need any special vaccines... contrary to popular belief, we are not quite africa...lolol...

Thanks! I think if I was able to get a pass, instead of a grade, in the classes that I need credit for that might be fine. I think I just need proof that I attended the classes and passed. I don't think I need an actual grade. I still need to talk to my school though. They won't let me talked to them for another 3 weeks.

And I know Portugal isn't Africa. lol.
It just seemed like this might be the sort of thing that would require some kind of shot. I just thought I would check.

I was so excited when I found out I didn't need any special shots. I did need to take a TB test, I think, but that was all, as far as I can remember. Portugal has a very similar vaccine schedule to ours, but they give their kids a tuberculosis vaccine and we don't generally do that here.

Part of what's awesome about going to an EU country-- no weird shots needed You just need to make sure you're up to date on everything.

They will give you a pass as long as you don't disrupt classes, they are quite simpathetic to foreign exchange students...lol...as for actual grades that is another matter!

There is still active tb in the older generation as tb vaccination only became required in the mid seventies (even though I got a shot and I am from 72).
I was still required to take the test in my second year of college, but that is no longer required as the present generation is fully immunized!

With AFS at least though, a TB test is a required part of your application. It doesn't matter if you're going to Iceland or Indonesia, you still have to have it done to even apply.

This year less than 15% of AFSers are being placed within greater Lisbon area, there is an even spread between Lisbon, the centre area and the north.
This could still change as a large number are still placed in temporary welcome families or not yeat placed (it is a national problem that we leave it all till the last minute, so sometimes AFS portugal has to place AFSers with temporary families until they complete the vetting process on candidate families).
I must say I am not the greatest example, as we only decided to host last time 3 weeks before the arrival and even though I had been a volunteer for some time, my family still had to follow all the procedures so our host son was only placed with us 2 days before he left...
